RSASA Biennial Abstract Prize 2025

8 Jun - 20 Jul 2025

ABOUT

The Royal South Australian Society of Arts is proud to be launching its 2nd Biennial Abstract Art Prize.  In 2025, we are taking this unique opportunity to showcase, nonrepresentational abstract art.

Art that does not draw from the natural world.  Art, where the artist deliberately manipulates the interplay of colour, form, texture, line and composition to create a visual experience that stimulates the senses and emotes visceral reactions.  Art that draws the viewer in to respond more directly to their own feelings; to form their own deeper interpretations at a subjective level.

Art that is sometimes referred to as ‘pure abstraction’ or  non-objective.  Art that marks a deliberate and conscious departure from the traditional narratives and techniques of classical representation.

For 2025, we are seeking nonrepresentational artworks that

  • challenge conventional ways of seeing and understanding, by marking a complete departure from literal representation.
  • stimulate the senses, evoke emotional responses and engage the viewer in subjective interpretation.
  • can be appreciated for its pure aesthetic qualities, its notions of order, purity, simplicity, spirituality. display exceptional technical proficiency, understanding and innovative use of the chosen medium.
