RSASA 2013 Inaugural Portrait Prize Exh: 23 June – 14 July
A great exhibition opening today for the RSASA Inaugural 2013 Portrait Prize with over 200 visitors to the RSASA Gallery. Congratulations to all the artists, and thankyou to all the artists who entered. There were 344 entries and from these the judges selected 87 artworks.
Nick Mitzevich, Director of the Art Gallery of SA officially opened the Portrait Prize exhibition this afternoon in the RSASA Gallery, with wonderful comments, and how the amount of entries received and the visitors present today indicated the huge interest in Portraits. He spoke of why we seem to enjoy looking at portraits, what do we read into the sitter, and the information the artist brings out within the artwork.
Christopher Orchard spoke on behalf of the judges, himself, Anna Platten & Sam Hill-Smith, commenting on the high level of artworks entered and the importance of such a prized exhibition for our South Australian artists, and encouraging sponsorship for following Portrait Prize exhibitions, this being the start of something much bigger.
